Why Game Prices Differ Around the World
When you look at game prices across different countries, converting everything directly into US dollars can be confusing. Rockstar Games sets prices differently around the world rather than simply converting $79.99 at current exchange rates.
If Rockstar simply converted $79.99 into local currencies, players in countries with weaker currencies would face prices that equal a huge chunk of a month's paycheck. At the same time, in countries with high sales taxes like the UK and Europe, converting without tax adjustments would make games far too expensive.

Region Locks, Download Codes, and Buying Safely
Because physical copies come with download codes rather than game discs, here is what you need to know before buying a game code from another country:
Your PlayStation Network account is locked to the country where you created it. While your PS5 can play games from accounts in different countries, a download code bought in one country can only be redeemed on an account from that same region. In addition, any future add-ons or in-game cash you buy must match your game's region.
Xbox Series X and Series S let you change your console's region in settings. However, to buy digital games from another country's store, Microsoft requires a billing address and payment card issued in that country. Trying to use VPNs to buy games in cheaper regions violates Microsoft's terms.
Unofficial third-party key websites often sell game keys purchased with stolen credit cards or bought in other regions. Rockstar and console makers regularly deactivate stolen or fraudulent game keys, which could leave you without the game and with no way to get a refund. Stick to official stores and authorized retailers.
International Pricing FAQ
It looks more expensive because prices in the UK (£69.99) and Europe (€79.99) already include sales tax (VAT). In the US ($79.99), prices are shown without tax, which gets added when you check out. Once you take out the 20% European sales tax, the base price is almost the same as in the US.
No. PlayStation locks game codes and store purchases to the country of your account. To buy from another country's store, you need a credit card issued in that country. Trying to use VPNs to get around this also violates PlayStation rules and can get your account suspended.
The consoles themselves can play games from anywhere, but remember: GTA 6 physical retail boxes contain download codes, not discs. Those download codes only work on an account registered in the same region where the box was sold. A European voucher code will not work on a US account.
