GTA 6 Collector's Edition: The Truth Behind the $150 Price Rumors

Debunking rumors of a $150 to $250 GTA 6 Collector's Edition. How the rumors started, what Rockstar actually confirmed, and what to expect.

Ever since the first GTA 6 trailer dropped, social media, Reddit, and YouTube have been flooded with rumors claiming Rockstar will release a $150 to $250 Collector’s Edition. Viral videos have shown fake images of statues of Lucia and Jason, cloth maps of Leonida, and fancy steelbook cases.

However, when you check official store listings and Rockstar announcements, the facts are clear: Rockstar Games has not announced any Collector’s Edition for GTA 6.

Here is where those rumors came from, what Rockstar has actually confirmed, and what you can really expect.

What Rockstar Has Actually Confirmed: Just Two Editions

Rockstar Games and Take-Two have officially announced only two versions of GTA 6 for launch on November 19, 2026:

  1. Standard Edition ($79.99): Available digitally or as a physical box (which contains a download code on a card, no disc). Includes the full story mode and full GTA Online access.
  2. Ultimate Edition ($99.99): Available digitally only. Includes everything in the Standard Edition plus $1,500,000 in online cash, 1 month of GTA+, and extra cars and outfits.
  3. Ultimate Upgrade Pack: A digital add-on that lets Standard Edition owners upgrade later if they want the online perks.

No retailer — including Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart — has any listing or SKU for a third “Collector’s Edition.”

Where Did the $150 Price Rumor Come From?

How did rumors of a $150 price tag spread so widely? They started from three main sources:

1. A CEO Quote Taken Out of Context

During an investor call in late 2023, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick talked about how video games offer incredible value compared to movies or concerts when you look at how many hours of fun you get. Some social media accounts twisted his words, claiming he said GTA 6 should cost $150. That was never what he said.

2. Fake AI Images on TikTok and Reddit

In early 2024, fans began posting realistic-looking AI mockups on Reddit and TikTok showing $199 collector boxes with statues and accessories. Other websites reposted these images claiming they were “leaked store listings,” even though they were just fan creations.

3. Memories of GTA 5 in 2013

When GTA 5 launched in 2013, Rockstar did release a $150 Collector’s Edition that came with a security deposit bag, a hat, and a steelbook case. Many fans naturally assumed Rockstar would do the exact same thing again.

A Look at Past Rockstar Collector Editions

Here is what Rockstar has done for past major game launches:

Release YearGame & EditionPriceWhat Was in the BoxWas the Game Included?
2008GTA 4 Special Edition$89.99Metal lockbox, duffel bag, art book, music CDYes (DVD disc)
2013GTA 5 Special Edition$79.99Steelbook case, blueprint map, digital bonusesYes (Blu-ray disc)
2013GTA 5 Collector’s Edition$149.99Money bag with key, snapback cap, blueprint map, steelbookYes (Blu-ray disc)
2018Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector’s Box$99.99Metal lockbox, collector coin, bandana, puzzle, treasure mapNo Game Included (Box Only)
2026GTA 6 (Confirmed)$79.99 / $99.99Standard box with download code (no disc), or digitalFull Game Download

Notice what happened in 2018 with Red Dead Redemption 2: Rockstar sold the collector items as a separate merchandise box for $99.99 that did not include the game at all. That let players buy the game on whichever console they owned without stores having to manage huge, heavy boxes.

Why Studios Avoid Big Statue Bundles Today

Game studios rarely make giant statue collector boxes anymore for a few simple reasons:

  • High Shipping Costs: Shipping large, heavy boxes around the world has become very expensive.
  • No Discs in the Box: Because GTA 6 is sold with digital download codes, packing an expensive metal case with no disc inside feels strange to many buyers.
  • Store Inventory Risk: Stores do not want giant, expensive boxes taking up shelf space if they don’t sell out immediately.

Could Rockstar Still Release Collectibles Later?

It is possible that the official Rockstar Warehouse website might sell a standalone merchandise box (like they did with Red Dead Redemption 2) containing clothes, pins, or art prints without the game included.

If Rockstar ever announces an official collector box, we will post the details immediately on our News & Guides page. Until then, remember that any claims of a $150 or $250 game bundle are just unconfirmed internet rumors.
